Sometimes, I find myself in discussions that seem to have no clear beginning, especially when it comes to girl talk about boys. It’s not about the boy in question, but more on navigating the grey areas I wasn’t prepared for when girl meets boy.

Yes, this is one of those conversations for me. It’s about something I never meant to desire, let alone remember.

I reflect on the obvious things: intimacy, temptation, bad timing, a wise decision, and the missed opportunity resulting from an intense experience as I muse late into the night.

One evening, surrounded by people who mostly knew each other by their titles, something subtle shifted. That’s the thing about infatuation: it rarely announces itself. I swear, I am not imagining this!  I know my own magnetism.

It started with a glance. A simple one. Or so I thought. Then another.

I noticed. I smiled. I was intrigued.

The boy offered me a sip from his drink, tossing in a joke or two about his questionable dancing skills. Suddenly, we can’t help it. Our attention keeps finding its way back to one another. Again and again, each glance making the next one feel inevitable.

I sit beneath flashes of colored lights and the pulse of music, quietly wondering what we are supposed to do with this growing tension between us. Before long, I found myself moving against him to the slow, hypnotic rhythm of Lover’s Rock. Somehow, we kept slipping deeper into the thrill of it, moving from the crowd toward the back, where I caught a taste of something I still struggle to put into words.

I could feel the anticipation mingling with heat, each entanglement sharpening another with intensity. The world seemed to narrow to just the two of us.

Eventually, we found ourselves alone behind closed doors, hungry for more, with a longing that burned against my brown skin like a furnace and a rather huge appetizer in the mix…
